Homework

Homework is recorded in student planners throughout the day by the students. The teacher uses an overhead transparency that is exactly like the student planner. Parents and teacher can communicate through writing notes in the planner.

Reading Two stories read each week. Students should read stories aloud to parents nightly. Have your child retell the story to you. Have them give details and have them tell the story in order of how it happens. An open book test is given on Fridays. The test is based on the story and skills we have worked on that week.
Math Students will have math homework each night. Homework is used to reinforce skills taught that day in class. The work comes from the regular math text book, the Louisiana work book, and supplements used by the teacher. Students are quizzed daily on addition and subtraction facts. We will begin learning multiplication tables during the 5th six weeks.
Spelling/Language Students will complete a unit each week. Each unit consists of 15 words. Spelling lists are sent home on Friday for the following week.

Language is taught in conjunction with the reading series and using the textbook. I usually send home worksheets to practice skills.

Social Studies/ Science Review study guides that are sent home. Please send any items requested to do classroom activities. Take opportunities on short trips and vacation to discuss using maps, location (north, south, east, and west), traditions, landmarks, rivers, etc.
